History Of Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve
The history takes us back to the year 1775 when the last Empress of Russia Catherine II visited Moscow to host celebrations. The treaty of Kucuk Kaynarca was the event that embarked on celebrations all across the village. The area where Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve stands today was once a part of Chernaya Gryaz Village. This place had lush greenery that made it an instant favorite of Catherine II. By the order of Empress Catherine II, the construction of the estate began in 1776. Empress Catherine II appointed Vasili Bazhenov as the architect of the estate to be built in Gothic revival architecture. The construction was completed within 10 years. But the Empress wasn’t happy with the outcome and appointed another architect. Dismantling the existing structure, new construction was started in 1786. Soon, Empress Catherine II passed away and the construction halted. It wasn’t until 1927 in Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve history, it was restored to attain a status of a state-of-art museum.
